We are often asked whether our serums "replace" retinol. The honest answer: they are two very different approaches, which cannot be compared point by point. Here is what to know.
Retinol, in brief
Retinol is a vitamin A derivative widely used in face care. It is a powerful active ingredient, introduced gradually, used in the evening and requiring strict sun protection. It can cause tightness or irritation on sensitive skin, especially at first.
Our Immortelle products, in brief
Our serums combine vegetable oils and Corsican essential oils: Immortelle, myrtle and, for the Super Serum, lentisk. They contain no retinol.
- The Immortelle Serum, morning and evening: it hydrates the skin and leaves it toned and firm, according to its label.
- The Super Serum, in the evening: it hydrates and revitalizes the skin and visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines, according to its label.
The differences
| Retinol | Our Immortelle serums | |
|---|---|---|
| Nature | Vitamin A derivative | Vegetable oils and essential oils |
| When | In the evening, starting gently | Serum: morning and evening. Super Serum: evening |
| Sun | Sun protection essential | Super Serum photosensitizing: evening, and sun protection by day |
| Pregnancy | Generally not recommended | Not recommended, because of the essential oils |
Can they be combined?
We advise you not to layer several active products on the same evening without professional advice, and to ask your dermatologist or pharmacist if you already use a retinol product.
Our products are for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, keep them out of reach of children and stop using them if irritation occurs. Because of the essential oils, several products are not recommended during pregnancy: check the label. These beauty tips do not replace the advice of a health professional.
