A handful of Immortelle stems and the sickle

From harvest to bottle: a year on our Immortelle farm

Between the flower and the bottle, there is only us. We grow, harvest, distill, prepare and ship everything ourselves, from our farm in Calvi. Here is the journey of a bottle, through the year.

The field, all year round

Our Immortelle grows in long rows of rounded shrubs, at the foot of a high range of rocky mountains. The field has been farmed organically since 2008. The rest of the year, we look after the rows and let the plant get ready to flower.

June: harvesting by hand

When the flowers are ready, the harvest begins. It is done by hand, with the traditional sickle, a fine crescent-shaped blade. The gesture is always the same: take a handful of flowering stems, hook them, pull.

The cut flowers are laid on white tarps, then go to maceration or to the still.

Summer: two paths for the flower

  • Distillation, in our outdoor still, gives the essential oil and the floral water. We describe it in Inside our still.
  • Sun maceration: the flowers spend several months in grapeseed oil, in the sun, before being cold-pressed. It is all explained in Sun maceration.

In the lab: preparing and bottling

Our lab is a small white-tiled room with stainless steel worktops. This is where we prepare the products, fill the bottles and put on the labels. Most of our liquids come in cobalt blue glass; the small 3 and 5 ml essential oils in amber glass.

Each bottle carries a batch number, its ingredient list and its precautions for use.

Why it matters to you

  • You know where your bottle comes from: a field, a harvest, a farm.
  • Every step is done by hand, by the people who grow the plant.
  • The organic certification is checked every year by Bureau Veritas (FR-BIO-10). We explain it in Our organic certification.
